Vadodara: A bomb threat email sent to the Vadodara Municipal Corporation’s (VMC) Khanderao Market headquarters on Wednesday triggered a major security alert, prompting the evacuation of the civic body’s main office and a comprehensive search operation by security agencies.
Security Response
The email, addressed to the municipal commissioner and the mayor, led to the deployment of police personnel, bomb detection and disposal squads, and dog squads at the premises. Officials said a thorough search was conducted, but no suspicious object was found.
Threats Across Gujarat
Authorities said similar threat emails were reportedly received by municipal corporations in several other cities across Gujarat, prompting heightened vigilance across civic establishments. The email allegedly claimed that a blast would be carried out at a government office linked to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and contained threats of violence. Police are investigating the contents and authenticity of the message.
Evacuation and Search
As a precautionary measure, VMC offices were evacuated while security teams carried out detailed inspections of the building. In a separate incident, a bomb threat email was also sent to Navrachana School, triggering a swift response from law enforcement agencies. Teams from the Sama police station, along with bomb disposal and dog squads, conducted a comprehensive search of the school campus. No suspicious material was found during the operation.
Parental Concern
The threat caused anxiety among parents and school authorities, but officials later confirmed that the campus was safe. Students were dismissed as scheduled after security checks were completed.
Investigation
Police have launched investigations into both threat emails and are working to trace their origin. Officials said all necessary precautions were taken and standard security protocols were followed.
