Bomb Threats via Email Target Bihar Assembly and Civil Courts
On Friday, the Bihar assembly and civil courts in Patna and Siwan were thrown into chaos after receiving bomb threats via emails. The alarming messages triggered widespread panic and led to large-scale security checks across all three premises. Authorities acted swiftly, evacuating the buildings and conducting intensive searches with dog squads and bomb disposal teams. Fortunately, no suspicious objects or explosives were discovered during these operations.
Specific Threats and Immediate Response
The email targeting the Bihar assembly contained particularly menacing details. It claimed that "13 RDX have been planted... Be ready for a blast at 2.15pm," and further warned that "13 RDX IEDs mixed with cyanide gas are ready to explode." The message explicitly called for the immediate evacuation of MLAs and the public. In response, the Sachivalay Police launched a thorough search of the Vidhan Sabha complex, but their efforts yielded no evidence of any threat.
Security Measures at Patna Civil Court
At the Patna civil court, similar precautions were taken after a bomb threat email was received. Pirbahore SHO Mohd Sajjad confirmed, "The Patna civil court received a bomb threat via email. The court premises were searched properly by the security agencies and the police teams. No suspicious object was found during the search operation. Meanwhile, the court proceedings continued as usual." This ensured that judicial activities were minimally disrupted despite the security scare.
Siwan Incident and Cyber Investigation
In Siwan, security was significantly tightened following a comparable threat. SP Puran Kumar Jha stated, "Despite an intensive search, no suspicious object or explosive material was found, and the threat was declared a hoax. Police have directed the cyber cell to conduct a technical investigation to trace and verify the source." This highlights the ongoing efforts to identify the perpetrators behind these false alarms.
The incidents underscore the vulnerability of public institutions to cyber-enabled threats and the importance of robust security protocols. While the threats proved to be hoaxes, they caused considerable disruption and anxiety, prompting authorities to reinforce vigilance and investigative measures to prevent future occurrences.
