Kolhapur: A tragic incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon in Ichalkaranji, where a 10-year-old boy was electrocuted after coming into contact with a loose electrical socket connected to a table fan during a housewarming function. The police confirmed the details on Thursday.
Victim Identified
The deceased, Vihan Shaikh, was a resident of Kagal and was about to enroll in Std V. He had visited a relative's house with his parents in the morning to attend the housewarming ceremony. The incident took place right after lunch.
How the Incident Occurred
According to the police, Vihan went to fetch water when he accidentally came into contact with a live socket connected to the main power supply. The boy’s father informed the authorities, “Unknowingly, his foot touched the loose socket, and he received an electric shock from the exposed live wire.” The socket was reportedly connected to a table fan and had been left exposed.
Police Investigation
Ichalkaranji police have initiated an inquiry into the incident. They are likely to book the owner of the house for negligence, as the loose socket posed a serious safety hazard. The police are gathering statements from witnesses and family members to determine the exact circumstances leading to the electrocution.
