Police in Balasore detained a minor boy on Friday after he allegedly attempted to forcibly enter a shelter home where a recently returned adopted girl from the United States is currently undergoing counseling. The incident has added another layer to the ongoing controversy surrounding the girl's international adoption and her subsequent allegations against her foster mother.
Confrontation at Shelter Home Entrance
According to the official complaint filed by Gopamudra Mohapatra, president of Balasore Nari Sangh, the boy arrived at the shelter home in the morning and was asked to produce identity proof. "The boy appeared to be minor, so we requested his ID. Instead of complying, he insisted on entering the premises and created a scene. We had no option but to call police," Mohapatra stated. The situation escalated when the boy refused to follow security protocols, leading to his detention and subsequent counseling.
Extortion Allegations Surface
The complaint further revealed serious allegations against the detained boy. Mohapatra alleged that the boy had previously demanded money from the girl's foster mother in the United States. "We informed police after learning about the monetary demand. The matter is under investigation," she added. This new development has prompted police to expand their investigation beyond the shelter home incident to include potential extortion charges.
Police Investigation and Security Measures
A senior police officer confirmed that authorities are thoroughly investigating all aspects of the case. "We have detained the boy for questioning and counselling. Preliminary inquiry suggests he is a minor. We are also verifying the claim that he demanded money from the girl's foster mother. The girl's safety remains our priority," the officer stated. Police are coordinating with multiple agencies to ensure comprehensive handling of the sensitive situation.
The complex background of this case dates back to 2018 when the girl and her younger brother were adopted by a US-based woman. The situation gained international attention earlier this month when the girl posted a video on social media accusing her adoptive mother of torture and forced conversion. However, in a surprising turn of events, after returning to Bhubaneswar recently, the girl retracted her allegations, claiming they were fabricated in an attempt to reunite with her boyfriend in Balasore.
Authorities have confirmed that the girl will continue to stay at the shelter home until her counseling sessions are completed. "We are coordinating with the child welfare committee and the adoption agency to ensure proper care of the girl," the police officer added, emphasizing the comprehensive approach being taken to address the child's welfare.
Administrative Response and Future Planning
Balasore collector Suryawanshi Mayur Vikash revealed that officials are examining historical records to better understand the girl's background. "We are coordinating with the officials. Earlier records will help us plan a proper counselling programme for the girl," Vikash stated. This thorough examination of the girl's history at the ashram where she lived before her adoption aims to create a tailored support system addressing her specific needs and circumstances.
