Vigilance Department Nabs Block Programme Manager in Pratapgarh Bribery Sting

In a significant crackdown on corruption, sleuths from the vigilance department executed a well-planned operation on Wednesday, resulting in the arrest of a block programme manager (BPM) stationed at the Baghrai community health centre in Pratapgarh. The arrest was made on charges of accepting a bribe amounting to Rs 50,000, highlighting ongoing efforts to combat graft in public service roles.

Details of the Bribery Allegations

According to officials, the case originated from a complaint lodged with the department on April 6. The accused, identified as Amit Kumar Mishra, a BPM from Kunda, was alleged to have solicited a bribe of Rs 1.5 lakh. This illicit demand was linked to the recruitment process for a sweeper position at the PHC Hardo Patti, which operates under the affiliation of the Baghrai CHC. Mishra reportedly instructed the complainant to pay an initial installment of Rs 50,000, with the remaining sum to be delivered within a week, underscoring a brazen attempt to monetize public employment opportunities.

Trap Operation and Arrest

Following a thorough and confidential verification of the complaint, authorities deemed the case suitable for a trap operation. On Wednesday, a dedicated team from the UP Vigilance department, spearheaded by inspector NR Saroj, meticulously laid the trap. The operation culminated in the arrest of Mishra red-handed while he was in the act of accepting the bribe money. This swift action demonstrates the department's commitment to rooting out corruption through proactive measures.
