Brampton Man Arrested for Sexual Assault in Online Job Scam Targeting Women

In a disturbing case of exploitation, 47-year-old Tejinder Dhaliwal has been arrested and charged with sexual assault in Brampton, Ontario. The arrest follows a thorough investigation by Halton Regional Police into two separate incidents where female victims were targeted through deceptive online job advertisements.

Modus Operandi: Fake Job Ads on Kijiji

According to police investigators, Dhaliwal allegedly posted "help wanted" advertisements on Kijiji, a popular Canadian online marketplace. These ads specifically advertised beginner-level data entry positions, seemingly targeting women who were new to Canada and seeking employment opportunities.

The police investigation revealed that after victims responded to these ads and arranged interviews, Dhaliwal would pick them up and drive them to isolated industrial parking lots in the Halton region. It was in these secluded locations that the assaults occurred.

Two Separate Incidents Reported

Halton Police have confirmed two specific incidents linked to this scheme:

  • The first incident was reported in March 2025
  • The second incident occurred in December 2025

In one of these occurrences, a victim was sexually assaulted. In the other separate incident, a different victim was offered employment opportunities that required a sexual relationship with the accused as a condition for the job.

Police Concerns About Additional Victims

Halton Police have released a photograph of Tejinder Dhaliwal to the public because investigators believe there may be additional victims who have not yet come forward. The police statement emphasized that the online job advertisements were specifically posted to exploit females seeking employment.

"After arranging interviews, the victims were picked up by the accused and driven to isolated industrial parking lots. In one occurrence, a victim was sexually assaulted. In a separate incident, a victim was offered employment opportunities that required a sexual relationship with the accused," the police release stated clearly.

Geographical Locations and Legal Status

The two confirmed incidents occurred in different locations within the Halton region:

  1. One incident took place in Milton
  2. The other occurred in Halton Hills

Despite the serious nature of the charges, Dhaliwal was released on bail on January 27, just one day after his arrest on January 26. He now faces formal charges of sexual assault and obtaining sexual services for consideration.

This case highlights the dangers of online job scams and serves as a stark reminder for job seekers, particularly newcomers to Canada, to exercise extreme caution when responding to employment advertisements and attending interviews with unfamiliar individuals.
