Bribe Trap: Sub-Engineer Held in Khargone

In a major crackdown on corruption, the Indore Lokayukta police caught a contractual sub-engineer red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 4,000 in Khargone district on Friday. The accused, identified as Manoj Sawle (42), was posted at the office of the chief executive officer of Janpad Panchayat in Maheshwar.

Details of the Incident

According to SP Lokayukt Rajesh Sahay, the trap was laid after a complaint from Mangan Singh Makwane, secretary of Gram Panchayat Kankariya. Makwane had supervised the construction of a well-grill in the village and needed a work evaluation and completion certificate for the project. Sawle allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 14,000 to issue the certificate.

Payment and Arrest

The complainant stated that Sawle pressured him to pay Rs 4,000 through UPI initially and was demanding the remaining amount. Acting on the complaint, Lokayukta police set a trap and caught Sawle in his office while he was accepting the bribe.
