Joint Security Forces Seize Heroin Worth Rs 12 Crore Near Indo-Pak Border

A coordinated operation by the Border Security Force (BSF) and Jammu & Kashmir Police led to the confiscation of around 2 kilograms of heroin near the international border in the Bishnah area of Jammu district. Officials confirmed the seizure on Thursday, stating that the narcotics are believed to have been air-dropped from Pakistan using a drone.

Intelligence-Driven Operation Uncovers Contraband

Acting on specific intelligence inputs regarding a suspected drone drop in Bahadurpur village, located a few kilometers from the border, security forces initiated a joint cordon-and-search operation late Wednesday. The search team discovered a bag equipped with a rope and hook, containing multiple small packets of the illicit substance.

The estimated value of the seized heroin is approximately Rs 12 crore in the international market, highlighting the significant scale of the smuggling attempt. This incident underscores the ongoing challenges of cross-border narcotics trafficking in the region.

Investigation Launched to Trace Source and Network

Following the recovery, authorities registered a First Information Report (FIR) under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Bishnah Police Station. A comprehensive probe has been initiated to determine the source and intended destination of the drugs.

Investigators are actively working to trace both forward and backward linkages in the case, aiming to dismantle the smuggling network involved. This seizure is part of broader efforts to curb drug trafficking activities along the sensitive border areas, officials noted.

The successful operation demonstrates the effectiveness of joint efforts between BSF and local police in intercepting illegal consignments and maintaining security in border regions. Further details are expected as the investigation progresses.
