BSF Personnel Attacked While Confronting Cattle Smugglers

Two Border Security Force personnel sustained injuries during a violent confrontation with suspected cattle smugglers in Tripura's Bishalgarh sub-division. The incident occurred on Friday in the Sepahijala district area when BSF jawans unexpectedly encountered the smuggling group.

Unexpected Encounter Leads to Violence

According to BSF sources, the personnel were not on a specific anti-smuggling operation but came across the group coincidentally while returning from duty in Sepahijala district. The team lacked sufficient strength to effectively intercept the smugglers, who launched an attack fearing arrest and livestock recovery.

The smugglers could not complete their illegal mission despite the assault. Both injured BSF personnel received primary medical treatment at a local hospital and were subsequently discharged. The Tripura Police have registered a formal case under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Bishalgarh police station.

Police Investigation Underway

Authorities have detained one individual for interrogation in connection with the attack, though no formal arrests have been made yet. The investigation continues as police work to identify and apprehend all individuals involved in the assault on security forces.

Major Cannabis Bust in Separate Operation

In a related development, BSF achieved significant success in countering cross-border crime with the apprehension of three Bangladeshi nationals and seizure of 168 kilograms of cannabis. The operation took place in PR Bari area of South Tripura district on Friday.

Based on specific intelligence inputs received on November 7, 2025, BSF troops intercepted the suspects at Indian village Megliband, Katlamura. The Bangladeshi nationals were planning to exfiltrate to Bangladesh with the substantial cannabis consignment when apprehended by alert border security forces.

The successful operations demonstrate the ongoing challenges faced by security forces along the India-Bangladesh border and their continued vigilance against smuggling activities ranging from cattle to narcotics.
