A locked house in Kalingapatti village near Manapparai, Trichy district, became the target of a daring burglary, with thieves making off with a significant amount of gold jewellery and cash. The incident, which came to light on Saturday, has left the local community alarmed.
Details of the Kalingapatti Burglary
The break-in occurred at the residence of P Vellaisamy, a 75-year-old security guard employed at a rice mill in the Manapparai vicinity. The family, which owns two properties, was currently living in the house that was targeted. The theft was discovered on Saturday morning when the family members found the front door lock tampered with and broken.
Upon entering and inspecting the premises, they were shocked to find that valuables kept in a bureau were missing. The stolen items included approximately two sovereigns of gold jewellery along with Rs 2 lakh in cash, representing a substantial loss for the family.
Police Investigation Launched
Following the discovery, the Manapparai police were immediately alerted and have registered a formal case. A thorough investigation has been initiated to track down the culprits. A team of senior officers, including Deputy Superintendent K Kavya and Inspector M Rajaservai, visited the crime scene to conduct a preliminary inspection.
To aid in the investigation and collect crucial evidence, the police have deployed specialized resources. Fingerprint experts meticulously examined the house for prints, while a sniffer dog was brought in to help follow potential scent trails left by the burglars.

This incident has raised concerns about security in the area, especially as the house was locked but still vulnerable to a break-in. The fact that the victim is an elderly security guard, a profession dedicated to protecting property, adds a layer of irony and distress to the crime.
