Bus Fire in Vizianagaram: 44 Escape Unharmed After Tyre Burst Ignites Blaze
In a harrowing incident early Saturday morning, a private AC semi-sleeper bus was completely engulfed in flames following a tyre burst near Ramabhadrapuram in Vizianagaram district. Miraculously, all 42 passengers and two drivers managed to escape without any injuries, thanks to the swift actions of the driver.
Timely Evacuation Prevents Tragedy
The terrifying event unfolded around 4 a.m. as the bus was traveling from Bhubaneswar to Malkangiri in Odisha. Upon the tyre burst, the driver immediately halted the vehicle and evacuated every passenger before the fire could spread and consume the entire bus. This prompt response was crucial in ensuring everyone's safety.
Police Investigation and Passenger Details
Inspector Srinivas from the Bobbili Rural police station confirmed that the bus was completely gutted by the fire, but no casualties or injuries were reported. Among the passengers was Mangu Khilla, the MLA from Chitrakonda constituency in Odisha, highlighting the diverse group on board.
Several passengers lost their luggage in the mishap, adding to the distress of the situation. In a notable recovery, gold ornaments belonging to a woman passenger, initially thought destroyed, were later retrieved by police after the flames were extinguished.
Suspected Cause and Aftermath
Officials are investigating the incident and suspect that an electrical short-circuit may have triggered the blaze following the tyre burst. This combination of factors led to the rapid spread of the fire, which ultimately destroyed the vehicle.
To assist the stranded passengers, all 42 individuals were accommodated in another bus operated by the same private company, allowing them to continue their journey to Malkangiri. The police have commended the driver's quick thinking and are continuing their probe into the exact cause of the fire.
