Police in Bihar's Buxar district have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against six individuals in connection with a fatal shooting that claimed one life and left another injured. The incident, which investigators are probing as a potential act of revenge linked to a previous triple murder, occurred on Monday night near Rasen village.
Details of the Firing Incident
The attack took place in the area under the jurisdiction of the Rajpur police station. According to official statements, Ramakant Pathak (60), a resident of Mohanpur village, was killed on the spot. Another man, Vijay Shankar Chaubey, sustained serious gunshot wounds to his leg while attempting to flee the scene. He is currently undergoing treatment at Sadar Hospital in Buxar.
Preliminary investigations suggest that around ten rounds were fired during the assault. During a subsequent inspection of the site, police recovered eight empty cartridges and two misfired bullets.
Revenge Angle and Victim's Statement
In his statement to the police, the injured Vijay Chaubey provided a crucial lead. He alleged that the armed assailants were members of the family affected by the Ahiyapur triple murder case. Chaubey claimed the attack was an act of retaliation for that earlier crime.
He recounted that Ramakant Pathak, his relative, had visited Rasen village. The two were taking an evening walk towards nearby fields when approximately six armed men, who were allegedly hiding near a canal, opened indiscriminate fire on them.
Police Investigation and Background
Buxar Superintendent of Police Shubham Arya confirmed he is personally overseeing the case. "It is too early to draw conclusions. All angles are being examined and appropriate action will follow," SP Arya stated. Based on Vijay Chaubey's complaint, the Rajpur Station House Officer (SHO), Niwas Kumar, registered the FIR against the six named persons.
The body of Ramakant Pathak was handed over to his family after a postmortem examination. In a related development, police have taken a relative of a key witness into custody for questioning.
This violent episode casts a shadow back to May 24 of this year, when three cousins were shot dead in Ahiyapur village under the same Rajpur police station. That murder was the result of a dispute over the storage of sand and gravel. Several accused in that case, including a former district board vice-chairman and his brother, are currently in jail.
