Tension Grips Buxar Village Following Police Action in Brutal Assault Case
Significant tension prevailed at Gurudas Mathiya village in Bihar's Buxar district on Thursday as police initiated action in a shocking alleged assault case that triggered widespread protests and a major road blockade by local villagers. The volatile situation developed following a brutal incident involving a youth who was reportedly hung upside down from a tree and severely beaten.
Police Action and Immediate Fallout
According to official reports, the incident relates to an alleged violent assault on Ravi Kumar Yadav, a local youth who suffered extreme physical abuse. On the formal complaint filed by his father, Basawan Yadav, police authorities registered a First Information Report (FIR) on Wednesday against seventeen named persons and ten unidentified individuals. This police action came exactly three days after the disturbing incident occurred.
Following the registration of the FIR, law enforcement conducted coordinated raids throughout the village during the same night. During these operations, six individuals were detained by police for detailed questioning regarding their potential involvement in the assault case.
Massive Protests and Road Blockade
The police detentions sparked immediate and intense backlash from village residents, with most protesters belonging to the Dalit community. In a dramatic display of dissent, hundreds of villagers blocked the crucial Buxar–Itadhi main road for several consecutive hours on Thursday morning. The protesters vociferously demanded the immediate and unconditional release of all detained individuals.
The protest movement gained political backing when Azad Party's district president Suresh Azad publicly supported the demonstrating villagers. Azad presented a contradictory narrative, claiming that the youth had actually been apprehended while attempting to commit theft. He further alleged that police authorities had failed to properly register a theft case and instead unfairly targeted what he described as "innocent" villagers.
Victim's Harrowing Account
However, Ravi Kumar Yadav provided a dramatically different version of events during his testimony. The assault victim claimed he was simply traveling to his agricultural field around 4:00 AM during the ongoing wheat harvest season when a massive group of forty to fifty people intercepted him in a Dalit-dominated area. According to his account, they falsely accused him of theft before launching a vicious physical assault.
Yadav described particularly humiliating and violent treatment, alleging that his attackers partially shaved both his head and moustache before hanging him upside down from a tree for approximately forty-five minutes while continuously beating him. The victim suggested that old enmity connected to a previous murder case might have served as the underlying motive for the brutal attack.
Father's Detailed Allegations
Basawan Yadav, the victim's father, provided even more disturbing details about the assault. He alleged that his son was mercilessly beaten with wooden sticks, heavy stones, and an iron rod during the prolonged attack. According to his account, the assailants threw chilli powder on his son's body and made deliberate attempts to kill him during the violent episode.
The matter gained widespread attention only after a video recording of the incident circulated extensively across various social media platforms, drawing public outrage and prompting official intervention.
Police Investigation and Official Response
Buxar Superintendent of Police Shubham Arya addressed the developing situation, confirming that several accused individuals have been positively identified through the ongoing investigation. "A detailed and comprehensive investigation is currently underway," stated SP Arya. He emphasized the seriousness of the crime, declaring, "Hanging someone from a tree and assaulting him constitutes a grave criminal offense, and strict legal action will be taken against all those found guilty following proper investigation."
The police official assured that authorities are treating the case with utmost seriousness and will pursue all legal avenues to ensure justice is served in this disturbing matter that has deeply divided the village community.
