Cab driver, passenger killed in South Delhi road accident

A tragic pre-dawn collision in South Delhi claimed two lives and left a third person fighting for his life on Wednesday. The incident occurred when a speeding car rammed into a cab near Siri Fort, resulting in fatal consequences.

Details of the Fatal Collision

The Delhi Police received a PCR call around 4:20 am reporting a serious crash on August Kranti Marg. According to officers, a car traveling from the Panchsheel flyover side towards Andrews Ganj allegedly hit a cab that was taking a right turn towards Balbir Saxena Marg.

The impact of the collision was severe, leaving the cab mangled and bloodstained inside. The front portion of the car was also heavily damaged. Debris from the crash, including a vehicle windscreen and blood, was scattered at the spot, which also saw damage to a traffic signal and a gas connection pole.

Victims and the Aftermath

The cab had three occupants, all of whom were rushed to the AIIMS trauma centre. Doctors declared two of them brought dead. The deceased were identified as Girja Lal Bharadwaj (43), the cab driver, and Ranjeet (30), a passenger.

The third occupant, Sumit (20), who is Ranjeet's relative, remains in critical condition. Both Ranjeet and Sumit were dhol players returning to their home in Lajpat Nagar after taking the cab from Hauz Khas.

For the family of cab driver Girja Lal Bharadwaj, the tragedy is compounded by past misfortune. His son, Deepak, revealed that Bharadwaj was the sole breadwinner for the family living in Khichripur. He was also responsible for the treatment of another son, Vishal, who has been in a coma since a road accident a few years ago.

Driver Apprehended and Police Investigation

The driver of the car, Krishansh Kapoor (21), a resident of Udai Park, was apprehended from the spot. Police stated that Kapoor, who is pursuing an MBA, told them he was returning home after meeting a friend in Panchsheel Park when the accident occurred.

A senior police officer confirmed that the car involved is registered in the name of Kapoor's mother, a retired teacher. Preliminary investigation indicates that the vehicle was being driven at high speed at the time of the incident. The police are continuing their investigation into the exact circumstances leading to the crash.

Monica Singh, a local resident, said she came across the scene during her morning walk. The incident has once again highlighted concerns over road safety and speeding on Delhi's streets, especially during the early hours.
