The Delhi Police Special Cell has made a significant breakthrough in the Red Fort explosion case by detaining a car dealer from Faridabad who allegedly facilitated the sale of the vehicle used in the terrorist attack that claimed eight lives and left numerous injured.
Key Arrest in Vehicle Trail
Special Cell officials confirmed the detention of Amit, proprietor of Royal Car Plaza in Faridabad's Sector 37, who was taken into custody late Monday night, just hours after the devastating explosion occurred near the Red Fort Metro Station. The arrest was conducted with assistance from local police authorities.
According to police sources, Amit is currently undergoing intensive interrogation as investigators work to trace the complete ownership history of the Hyundai i20 that was used in the blast. The investigation team is particularly focused on determining how the vehicle reached the primary suspect and establishing the connection between the car dealer and Dr Umar Nabi.
Blast Details and Suspect Profile
The explosion occurred around 6:52 pm outside Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station, with Dr Umar Nabi, an assistant professor at Al-Falah University in Faridabad, believed to have been driving the vehicle at the time of the incident. Investigators have revealed that this marks the first terrorist attack in the national capital since 2011, if officially confirmed.
Police sources indicate that Dr Nabi allegedly panicked after several of his associates were arrested and was attempting to relocate the explosives to another location when the accidental blast occurred. The explosion resulted in at least eight fatalities and injured scores of people, creating panic in the high-security area.
Citywide Security Measures Implemented
In response to the security breach, Delhi Police has launched an extensive verification campaign targeting all used-car dealerships across the capital and surrounding regions. Deputy Commissioners of Police from all 15 districts of Delhi have received directives to conduct meetings with local car dealers and thoroughly cross-examine recent sales records.
Station House Officers have been instructed to personally visit dealerships, verify recent transactions, and collect comprehensive details of buyers, with special attention to purchasers from Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir. The police are paying particular attention to any suspicious transactions or cash-only deals that might indicate attempts to avoid documentation.
Parallel investigations are being conducted by Haryana and Uttar Pradesh Police to identify vehicles purchased using fake identities or without proper documentation. During meetings with car dealers, police officials emphasized the critical importance of strictly following verification protocols and maintaining detailed sale-purchase records.
Dealers have been advised to verify buyers' Aadhaar cards, driving licenses, and address proofs thoroughly, and to immediately report any suspicious purchasing behavior to authorities. The Special Cell continues to examine dealership records, transaction logs, and CCTV footage as the investigation expands, with expectations of questioning more individuals connected to the vehicle's sale in the coming days.
