Car window smashed, Rs 7 lakh stolen from couple in Hosur

KRISHNAGIRI: An unidentified man broke a side window glass of a car parked outside a bank at Mathigiri in Hosur on Wednesday and stole Rs 7 lakh kept inside the vehicle by a couple. The incident occurred when K Sridhar, 48, of Chennapalli and his wife, Shobha, 41, went to an ATM to withdraw money.

The couple had arrived at the Indian Bank branch to retrieve gold jewellery pledged there. "We parked the car in front of the branch and went to withdraw money from an ATM as we were short of Rs 20,000," Sridhar, a taxi driver, told reporters. Upon their return after withdrawing the money, the couple discovered the front left side window glass of the car broken and Rs 7 lakh missing.

Sridhar filed a complaint at the Mathigiri police station. Based on the complaint, police registered a case and examined footage from surveillance cameras near the bank. "Footage showed an unknown man breaking the window glass, entering the vehicle, and escaping with a bag containing the money," said a police officer. Further investigations are ongoing.
