Mohali: The Sohana Police have registered a case against an individual in connection with alleged fraud and criminal breach of trust in a land deal. The accused allegedly acquired land worth crores from the complainant but failed to transfer the full extent of property in return. He also allegedly issued death threats to the complainant.
Gurmohan Singh, a resident of Bhago Majra village, alleged that Gurjant Singh, along with his associates, conspired to cheat him under the pretext of a land deal. The complainant stated that the accused promised 17 acres of land in exchange for 17 acres received from the complainant; however, registration was completed for only 13.5 acres.
The complainant further alleged that several panchayats (community meetings) were convened to resolve the issue, written agreements were executed, and cheques worth Rs 1 crore were issued, but no payment materialized. After examining documents spanning from 2020 to 2023, the investigation report concluded that a case of fraud existed. The report stated that the accused deceived the complainant by failing to execute land registration in exchange for the 17 acres of land received.
A case has been registered against Gurjant Singh at Sohana Police Station under Sections 406 (Criminal Breach of Trust) and 420 (Cheating) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
