The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested another individual in connection with the murder of a close aide of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Suvendu Adhikari. The arrest was made from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, marking a significant breakthrough in the ongoing investigation.
Details of the Arrest
The accused, whose identity has not been disclosed yet, was taken into custody late on Wednesday night. He is believed to have played a crucial role in the conspiracy and execution of the murder. The CBI has been probing the case since it was handed over to them following a directive from the Calcutta High Court.
Background of the Case
The murder victim, identified as a close associate of Suvendu Adhikari, was killed in East Midnapore district earlier this year. The incident had sparked political tensions in the region, with allegations and counter-allegations between the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the BJP. The CBI took over the investigation after the High Court found the state police's probe inadequate.
Earlier, the CBI had arrested three other accused in connection with the case. With this latest arrest, the total number of arrests has risen to four. The agency is reportedly looking for more suspects who may be involved in the crime.
Investigation Progress
The CBI has been conducting raids and interrogations across multiple states to unravel the conspiracy. The arrested accused is being brought to Kolkata for further questioning. Officials have stated that they are confident of cracking the case soon.
The murder had sent shockwaves through the political landscape of West Bengal, and the arrest is seen as a step towards ensuring justice for the victim and his family.
