The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken Giribala Singh, the mother-in-law of the deceased Twisha Sharma, into custody. This action follows the Madhya Pradesh High Court's decision to quash the anticipatory bail granted to her in a case involving alleged dowry harassment and cruelty.
High Court's Observations
The High Court set aside a May 15 order issued by a Bhopal sessions court. The court observed that the material available in the case diary, witness statements, and allegations made by the deceased's family were not adequately considered while granting relief. The court noted allegations that Twisha Sharma had faced harassment and pressure to terminate her pregnancy. It also referred to WhatsApp chats and postmortem findings that showed multiple ante-mortem injuries on the deceased.
CBI's Submission
The CBI informed the court that Giribala Singh had allegedly not fully cooperated with the investigation. The agency argued that custodial interrogation could be necessary for the ongoing probe. The arrest marks a significant development in the case, which has drawn widespread attention.
The case involves allegations of dowry harassment and cruelty leading to the death of Twisha Sharma. The CBI is continuing its investigation to uncover further details. The High Court's decision to revoke the anticipatory bail underscores the seriousness of the allegations and the need for thorough judicial scrutiny.
