The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended Narayan Singh Bundela, the deputy chief engineer-II (construction) of West Central Railway, on charges of accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh in Sagar district, Madhya Pradesh. The arrest took place on June 4 following a complaint and a meticulously planned trap operation.
Details of the Bribery Case
According to the CBI, Bundela allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 1 lakh from a contractor to release a security deposit and clear pending bills and PVC dues amounting to nearly Rs 1 crore related to contract work. The agency registered a case based on the complaint and set up a sting operation, during which the railway official was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe in Sagar.
Seizures and Recovery
During subsequent searches, the CBI recovered unaccounted cash worth Rs 62,000 from the accused's guest house room. Additionally, documents pertaining to real estate investments were seized from his residence, indicating possible further financial irregularities.
Legal Proceedings
The accused was arrested on June 4 and is scheduled to be produced before a competent court in Jabalpur on Friday. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities examining the extent of the bribery network and any other officials involved.
