Case registered on complaint by tax officer
The case was registered based on a complaint filed by Amit Kumar, a State Tax Officer based in Malout. During that meeting, Rana allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 20 lakh and a mobile handset in exchange for settling the case favorably.
Trap laid, three arrested
Following the complaint, the CBI laid a trap in Chandigarh on May 11, 2026. During the operation, Ankit Wadhwa, Raghav Goyal, and Vikas Goyal were arrested at the scene. Rana himself later surrendered before the court. The chargesheet details the sequence of events and the evidence collected during the investigation.
Ongoing legal proceedings
The accused are facing charges under the Prevention of Corruption Act. The court will now proceed with the trial based on the evidence presented by the CBI. The case highlights ongoing efforts to tackle corruption within government departments in Punjab.
