The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed six chargesheets in connection with the Mahadev online betting application case, officials confirmed on Thursday. The agency has indicated that the investigation remains active to uncover the full extent of the syndicate, including its political and bureaucratic connections.
Six chargesheets submitted
According to CBI officials, the six chargesheets were submitted before a special court in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, detailing the roles of multiple accused individuals and entities. The chargesheets cover allegations of illegal betting operations, money laundering, and criminal conspiracy linked to the app.
The Mahadev app allegedly allowed users to place bets on various games and events, operating without proper licenses and routing funds through shell companies. The CBI has been investigating the case since 2023, following a complaint from the Chhattisgarh police.
Probe remains open
Officials stated that the investigation is not closed and efforts are ongoing to identify all beneficiaries and protectors of the syndicate. “The agency has kept the probe open to unearth the full spread of this syndicate as well as its political and bureaucratic patronage,” a CBI spokesperson said.
The CBI has so far arrested over a dozen individuals, including promoters and intermediaries, and has conducted searches across multiple states, seizing digital evidence and financial records.
Political and bureaucratic angles
The case has drawn attention due to alleged links to political figures and bureaucrats who may have facilitated the app’s operations. The CBI is examining transaction records and call data to trace connections to high-profile individuals.
The Mahadev app case is one of several high-profile betting scams being investigated by central agencies, highlighting the growing challenge of regulating online gambling platforms in India.
