The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has intensified its probe into the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) paper leak case, questioning parents who allegedly paid hefty sums to secure question papers in advance. According to sources, some parents paid up to Rs 10 lakh to middlemen who promised to provide the leaked question paper before the exam.
Details of the Investigation
The CBI has so far questioned several parents from Maharashtra and other states who are suspected to have been involved in the fraudulent scheme. The investigating agency is trying to trace the money trail and identify the kingpins behind the leak. Officials revealed that the payments were made through multiple channels, including digital transactions and cash, to avoid detection.
Modus Operandi
The paper leak syndicate allegedly operated through a network of touts who approached parents of NEET aspirants, assuring them of high scores by providing the question paper in advance. The cost for the leaked paper ranged from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh, depending on the candidate's location and the perceived risk involved. The CBI has recovered several electronic devices, including laptops and mobile phones, from the accused, which are being forensically examined to gather evidence.
Impact on Students
The paper leak has caused widespread anxiety among students who appeared for the NEET exam, one of the most competitive medical entrance tests in India. Many students have demanded a re-examination to ensure fairness. The National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducts the NEET, has assured that strict action will be taken against those found guilty and that the sanctity of the exam will be maintained.
Legal Proceedings
The CBI has registered a case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including cheating, conspiracy, and criminal breach of trust. Several individuals have been arrested so far, and the investigation is ongoing. The agency is also probing the role of insiders who might have facilitated the leak from within the examination system.
The NEET paper leak case has once again raised questions about the security of high-stakes examinations in India. The CBI has urged anyone with information about the leak to come forward and assist in the investigation.
