Chandigarh Rocked by Multiple Burglaries: Valuables Worth Lakhs Stolen
In a concerning wave of criminal activity, burglars have targeted several residences and commercial establishments across Chandigarh, making off with significant amounts of gold and silver jewellery, mobile phones, cash, and other valuable items. The incidents, which occurred in various sectors and colonies, have prompted police to launch thorough investigations as affected residents report substantial losses.
Residential Thefts Leave Families in Distress
According to official reports, one of the affected individuals, Rohit Kumar, a resident of Dadumajra Colony in Sector 38, detailed a distressing incident. Kumar had visited his mother's house in Sector 56 on March 12. Upon returning home the following day at approximately 5:30 PM, he discovered the lock of his almirah forcibly broken. Missing from the premises were Rs 16,000 in cash, along with precious jewellery including a gold mangalsutra, a pair of gold earrings, a gold ring, and two gold chains.
In a separate case from the EWS Colony in Dhanas, Iqbal Ahmad reported that an unidentified intruder stole a silver chain, four pairs of silver anklets, two gold rings, and two mobile phones from his residence. The theft has left the family anxious about their security and the loss of sentimental and monetary valuables.
Additional Incidents Highlight Widespread Crime Spree
Further adding to the spate of burglaries, Rekha Devi, a resident of Bapu Dham Colony in Sector 26, recounted her ordeal. Devi had gone to a hospital on March 12. When she returned home in the morning, neighbours informed her that a group of 10 to 15 individuals had been seen near her house around 2 AM. Upon inspection, she found that approximately Rs 40,000 in cash and three mobile phones had been stolen, causing significant financial and emotional distress.
In yet another incident, Nitin from Manimajra reported a burglary at his office located in the Motor Market of Manimajra. Unknown persons broke the locks and stole five mobile phones, disrupting business operations and raising concerns about commercial security in the area.
Police Response and Ongoing Investigations
Local authorities have registered cases in connection with all these burglaries and are actively pursuing further investigations. The Chandigarh Police have assured the public that they are employing all available resources to identify and apprehend the culprits responsible for these crimes. Residents are being advised to enhance their security measures and remain vigilant, especially during nighttime hours.
The series of thefts underscores a pressing need for improved community safety initiatives and robust law enforcement strategies to combat property crimes in urban areas like Chandigarh.
