The Chandigarh UT Administration has declared the entire city a no-flying zone for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) on July 10, 16, and 17, 2026, citing security concerns related to high-profile visits.

PM Modi's Visit Triggers Two-Day Ban

In view of the proposed visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Chandigarh on July 17, District Magistrate Nishant Kumar Yadav issued an order on July 8, 2026, prohibiting the operation of UAVs across the city for two days starting July 16. The order, released by the UT Administration, states that the decision was taken due to emerging threats and to ensure the security of VVIPs.

Transit Visit of Vice President on July 10

Additionally, the District Magistrate declared the whole of Chandigarh a no-flying zone on July 10 in light of the transit visit of Vice-President CP Radhakrishnan. The restriction applies to all types of UAVs, including drones and remote-controlled aircraft, for the entire duration of both events.

Security Measures and Enforcement

The order emphasizes that any violation of the no-flying zone will result in strict legal action under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Aircraft Act. The UT Police have been directed to enforce the ban and monitor airspace for unauthorized UAV activity. According to the official statement, the measures are part of a comprehensive security plan to safeguard the dignitaries during their stay in the city.
