Chandigarh Police Apprehends Six in Daring Night-Long Robbery Spree
What began as a night of reckless ambition and criminal intent in the twin cities of Panchkula and Chandigarh culminated in a dramatic police chase and the swift arrest of six suspects. The gang, which included two minors, allegedly embarked on a fast-moving chain of knifepoint robberies, terrorizing residents before law enforcement brought their brief reign of terror to an abrupt end.
A Night of Crime Unfolds Across Two Cities
In the early hours of Tuesday, Chandigarh Police apprehended six persons following a series of back-to-back robberies that spanned multiple locations. The adult accused have been identified as Ajay, Salman, Bhola, and Arun, all residents of Bhainsa Tibba village in Panchkula. According to police reports, the criminal spree commenced with the theft of a Maruti Alto vehicle from Panchkula's Sector 11.
Armed with the stolen car, the gang first executed two knifepoint robberies in Panchkula. As dawn approached around 5 a.m., they crossed into Chandigarh, continuing their crime wave. In Sector 11 near Sector 43, they targeted an individual named Gaurav, snatching Rs 15,000 in cash, along with clothes and important documents. Mere minutes later, near the Government Art Gallery in Sector 10, they stopped passerby Gurbaksh at knifepoint, making off with his mobile phone and a wallet containing Rs 2,600.
Alert Victim and Swift Police Response
Unbeknownst to the gang, one of their victims managed to note down the vehicle number of the stolen Alto. This critical piece of information was promptly relayed to the police control room, triggering an immediate and coordinated response. Teams from the Crime Branch, Sector 36, and three police stations swiftly fanned out across the city, locking down routes and intensively scanning for the suspect vehicle.
As the gang allegedly hunted for yet another target, police units closed in on their location. A brief but intense chase ensued before officers successfully intercepted the vehicle, leading to the arrest of all six suspects. From their possession, police recovered the stolen Alto, the mobile phone, wallet, and other looted items, effectively putting an end to their crime spree.
Motives and Legal Proceedings
Investigators revealed that the accused are drug addicts who committed these thefts and robberies to fuel their addiction. Police have indicated that their arrest is likely to help crack open several pending cases, shedding light on other criminal activities in the region.
The two minors involved in the incident were produced before the Juvenile Justice Board and subsequently sent to a juvenile home. Meanwhile, the four adult accused were presented in court and remanded to police custody for further interrogation, as authorities continue to unravel the full extent of their criminal network.
This incident underscores the vigilance of Chandigarh Police and the importance of community cooperation in combating crime, ensuring that such brazen acts of lawlessness are swiftly addressed and justice is served.
