Chandigarh Police Arrests Wanted Criminal After Encounter

Chandigarh Police Apprehends Notorious Fugitive in Dramatic Early Morning Encounter

In a significant breakthrough, the operation cell team of Chandigarh Police successfully arrested a highly wanted criminal following a brief but intense encounter in Sector 25 during the early hours of Wednesday. The accused, identified as Mukesh alias Golu Gohana, sustained bullet injuries to his leg during the confrontation and was promptly admitted to Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH) in Sector 16 for medical treatment. Authorities have confirmed that his condition is currently stable under hospital care.

Intelligence-Led Operation Thwarts Arms Supply Plot

According to official statements from Vikash Sheokand, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of the Operation Cell, the police action was based on specific intelligence inputs. A dedicated team, led by Inspector Satwinder Singh, received credible information indicating that Mukesh, a known fugitive, was planning to deliver weapons within the city limits. In response, law enforcement personnel strategically established a checkpoint, commonly referred to as a 'naka,' near the cremation ground in Sector 25 to intercept the suspect.

As Mukesh arrived at the location and noticed the police presence, he allegedly initiated gunfire, discharging three rounds directly at the officers. Fortunately, no police personnel were harmed in this aggressive assault. In a measured act of self-defense and retaliation, the police team returned fire, resulting in one bullet striking Mukesh in his leg. The injury caused him to collapse on the road, after which he was immediately rushed to GMSH-16 for urgent medical attention.

Criminal Background and Ongoing Investigations

DSP Sheokand further revealed that Mukesh had been officially declared a fugitive by the Chandigarh district court in connection with a firing incident that occurred in Maloya back in 2021. His criminal network extends to his family, as his brother, Sunny Gohana, is currently incarcerated in Jhajjar jail of Haryana, facing charges under the Arms Act and an attempt to murder case. Police investigations have identified Mukesh as a primary arms supplier operating within the Chandigarh region, highlighting the severity of his illicit activities.

During the post-encounter procedures, law enforcement officials recovered significant evidence from the scene. This included one sophisticated pistol and multiple bullets found at the encounter site. Additionally, a separate sophisticated pistol along with live ammunition was confiscated from the personal possession of the accused, further substantiating the charges against him.

The successful operation underscores the Chandigarh Police's commitment to maintaining public safety and cracking down on organized crime networks. Authorities continue to delve deeper into the case to uncover any potential links or accomplices, ensuring that justice is served comprehensively.
