Chandigarh Police Implements 24/7 Checkpoints After Firing Incidents

In response to two back-to-back firing incidents that have shaken the city, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kanwardeep Kaur has issued stringent directives to significantly bolster Chandigarh's security framework. The new measures, announced on Thursday, aim to create a more robust and vigilant policing system across the urban landscape.

Round-the-Clock Checkpoints Established

Under the fresh orders, police checkpoints will now operate continuously, 24 hours a day, in every police station area throughout Chandigarh. This initiative is designed to enhance monitoring of suspicious activities and deter potential criminal elements. The personnel assigned to these checkpoints will undergo rotation every eight hours to maintain high levels of alertness and prevent fatigue from compromising security efforts.

Enhanced Field Deployment and Patrols

To ensure effective ground-level supervision, all Station House Officers (SHOs) and in-charges of police posts have been instructed to remain deployed in the field daily from 3 pm to 11 pm. This hands-on approach is intended to facilitate immediate response and oversight during peak hours.

Furthermore, surveillance capabilities have been upgraded with the provision of motorcycles to every police station. These bikes will conduct continuous, round-the-clock patrolling, establishing a comprehensive security cordon across the entire city. Specific strategic locations have been identified to optimize patrol routes and maximize coverage efficiency.

Accountability and Strict Enforcement

SSP Kanwardeep Kaur has emphasized that the concerned SHOs will bear full responsibility for the security of their respective jurisdictions. Any instances of negligence or lapses in duty will result in strict disciplinary action, underscoring the administration's commitment to public safety.

The implementation of these measures follows the recent firing incidents, which prompted a thorough review of existing security protocols. By integrating constant checkpoints, rotational duties, and enhanced mobile patrols, the Chandigarh Police aims to create a more secure environment and restore public confidence in law enforcement capabilities.
