Major Theft Mars Chandigarh Wedding Celebration
In a shocking incident that has raised concerns about security at public venues, unidentified miscreants stole Rs 5 lakh in cash and approximately five tolas of gold ornaments from a wedding function at Khukhrain Bhawan in Sector 35, Chandigarh. The theft occurred on Friday night, casting a shadow over what should have been a joyous occasion for the families involved.
How the Wedding Heist Unfolded
According to the official complaint filed with authorities, Gopal, a resident of Maloya, had booked the Khukhrain Bhawan venue for his daughter's wedding ceremony. Like many families during such important events, they had brought valuables including cash and gold jewelry for the rituals.
The complainant stated that he had kept a bag containing the cash and gold ornaments in a room and securely locked it. Later, when family members went to retrieve these valuables, they made the distressing discovery that the door lock had been broken and the bag was missing. The family immediately raised an alarm and contacted the police through helpline number 112.
Police Investigation and Suspicious Activity
A police team from Sector 36 police station quickly reached the spot and began their investigation. Officers recorded Gopal's detailed statement and initiated the process of checking CCTV camera footage from the venue and surrounding areas.
During preliminary investigations, the family members reported noticing two suspicious individuals who had been seen roaming around during the wedding function. Police have collected the available video footage for further scrutiny and are working to identify these suspects.
Pattern of Wedding Thefts in Sector 35
This incident marks the second major theft at a wedding venue in Sector 35 this month. In a strikingly similar case on November 8, two unidentified persons stole gold and diamond jewellery valued at Rs 20 lakh from a five-star hotel during another wedding ceremony.
The recurrence of such incidents within the same sector within weeks has raised serious questions about security measures at wedding venues and the targeting of such events by criminal elements. Police are now working to determine if these incidents are connected and have intensified efforts to identify the suspects and recover the stolen items from both cases.
