Chandrapur Police Launch Major Crackdown on Illegal Cattle Transport
In a significant operation aimed at curbing illegal activities, the Local Crime Branch of Chandrapur police intercepted two trucks on Mul Road and successfully rescued 63 cattle that were being transported illegally. The police also seized assets worth ₹58.2 lakh and arrested five individuals involved in the smuggling operation, officials confirmed on Tuesday.
Coordinated Patrol Leads to Major Bust
The operation was conducted as part of a coordinated patrol launched under the direct supervision of the Superintendent of Police. This initiative was specifically designed to target and reduce illegal activities, including cattle smuggling, gambling, and property-related offences in the region. Acting on specific intelligence and a reliable tip-off, police teams swiftly moved to intercept the vehicles near the MEL checkpoint.
According to police reports, the interception led to the immediate detection of the livestock, which were being transported without proper authorization. The timely action not only prevented further illegal movement but also highlighted the effectiveness of intelligence-driven policing in the area.
Assets Seized and Accused Booked
In addition to rescuing the cattle, authorities confiscated assets valued at ₹58.2 lakh, underscoring the financial scale of the illegal operation. The five arrested individuals are now facing legal proceedings, and in total, 11 accused have been officially booked by the Ramnagar police station in connection with this case.
This operation marks a critical step in the ongoing efforts to combat organized crime and protect animal welfare in Chandrapur. The police have reiterated their commitment to maintaining vigilance and taking strict action against such unlawful activities to ensure public safety and uphold the law.
