Chandrapur: The local crime branch (LCB) of Chandrapur Police seized banned flavoured tobacco and hookah products worth ₹2.84 lakh during a raid in Sindewahi and arrested the alleged kingpin behind the operation.
Raid Based on Intelligence
Acting on specific intelligence, an LCB team raided a property near Azad Chowk in Sindewahi where prohibited tobacco products were reportedly being stored for illegal sale. During the operation, police apprehended Sagar Kekre (34), a resident of Azad Chowk, and conducted a search of the premises.
Recovery and Legal Action
The search led to the recovery of a substantial stock of flavoured tobacco and hookah products. The accused was subsequently handed over to Sindewahi police station, where a case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
Police said efforts are underway to trace the source of supply and identify others involved in the network. The raid was led by police inspector Amol Kachore of the local crime branch under the guidance of senior district police officers.
