Major Drug Bust in Chatra: Police Seize Contraband Worth Rs 1.3 Crore

In a significant crackdown on narcotics trafficking, the Chatra police on Saturday seized contraband valued at approximately Rs 1.3 crore during coordinated raids across several locations under the jurisdiction of the Lawalong police station. The operation, which targeted multiple hideouts, resulted in the confiscation of a substantial quantity of illegal substances and related assets.

Coordinated Raids Across Multiple Villages

According to Chatra Superintendent of Police Sumit Kumar Agrawal, a specialized police team led by Simaria Subdivisional Police Officer Shubham Kumar Khandelwal executed the raids. The operation commenced with a search at a residence in Budhi village, followed by simultaneous actions at suspected hideouts in the villages of Sildag, Sauru, and Nawadih. This multi-pronged approach aimed to disrupt the local drug supply chain and apprehend key individuals involved in the illicit trade.

Substantial Seizure of Narcotics and Assets

The raids yielded a diverse array of contraband items, underscoring the scale of the illegal operation. Police officials reported the seizure of approximately 16.95 kilograms of wet opium, 296.95 kilograms of poppy straw (commonly known as doda), 76.7 kilograms of poppy seeds, and 50 grams of ganja. In addition to the narcotics, authorities confiscated Rs 3.11 lakh in cash, a motorcycle, and various documents believed to be linked to the smuggling activities. The total estimated value of the seized items is Rs 1.3 crore, highlighting the economic impact of such illicit networks on the region.

Smugglers Evade Capture During Operation

Despite the successful seizure, the police operation faced a setback as all suspected smugglers managed to flee the premises before authorities could apprehend them. SP Sumit Kumar Agrawal confirmed that the individuals escaped during the raids, and a manhunt is currently underway to locate and arrest them. The police are analyzing the seized documents and other evidence to identify the perpetrators and dismantle the broader smuggling network operating in the area.

This incident underscores the ongoing challenges law enforcement faces in combating drug trafficking in rural and semi-urban regions. The Chatra police have reiterated their commitment to intensifying efforts against narcotics trade, with plans for further investigations and increased vigilance to prevent similar activities in the future.
