Principal of Residential School in Chatra Arrested Following Minor Student's Pregnancy Allegations
A 50-year-old principal of a residential school located in Chatra district has been arrested by local police after a 13-year-old student, who was discovered to be pregnant, accused him of sexually exploiting her. The arrest occurred on Thursday night, following a formal complaint lodged by the minor and her family, which triggered immediate police action and a judicial custody order.
Discovery of Pregnancy and Family Protest
The distressing situation came to light when the student returned home from the hostel, and her family observed unusual physical changes in her appearance. Concerned about her health, the family conducted a pregnancy test at home, which confirmed the pregnancy. Shocked by the revelation, the family promptly informed the school authorities about the incident.
Subsequently, the family staged a protest on the school premises on Thursday night, alleging gross negligence on the part of the school administration and demanding strict legal action against those responsible. Police personnel quickly reached the location to manage the situation and bring it under control, ensuring order was maintained.
Police Investigation and Legal Proceedings
Following the protest, the student and her family were escorted to the police station, where their statements were meticulously recorded, and a comprehensive investigation was initiated. Based on the detailed complaint filed by the minor and her family, the school principal was arrested on Thursday night and subsequently sent to judicial custody.
Officials confirmed that a formal case has been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, and relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. This legal framework underscores the severity of the allegations and the commitment to justice.
Medical Examination and Committee Formation
The minor girl underwent a thorough medical examination at a local hospital, and her statement was recorded in the presence of administrative officials, including members of the child welfare committee. To ensure a transparent and impartial inquiry, Chatra Deputy Commissioner Keerti Shree has constituted a five-member committee specifically tasked with investigating the incident.
Additionally, officials have announced that a DNA test will be conducted as per court orders to establish factual evidence in the case, further strengthening the investigative process.
School's Response and Ongoing Investigation
In response to the allegations, school authorities have claimed that the student was irregular in attendance, though investigators are currently verifying all aspects of the case to determine the accuracy of these statements. The officer-in-charge of the local police station emphasized that a thorough and meticulous investigation is ongoing, with all leads being pursued to ensure justice is served.
This incident has highlighted critical issues of child safety and institutional accountability, prompting calls for stricter oversight in educational settings to prevent such tragedies in the future.
