Tragic Early Morning Accident Claims Life of Law Student in Chennai
A devastating road accident in the early hours of Tuesday resulted in the death of a 21-year-old law student and left four others injured, including three fellow students. The incident occurred near the exit junction at Anna University out-gate on Gandhi Mandapam Road, sending shockwaves through the local community.
Details of the Fatal Collision
According to police reports, the accident took place around 3:05 am when an XUV, driven by Abrarul, 21, from Karur, was traveling from Anna Salai towards Taramani. The vehicle carried four fourth-year students from Dr Ambedkar Government Law College: V Jinu, T Jegadeep, 22, and C Priya, 20. As they approached the exit junction, a car ahead of them in the same direction allegedly made a sudden right turn without any indication.
Abrarul lost control of the XUV and collided with the car from behind. The impact was severe, causing Jinu, a native of Palakkad, Kerala, to sustain critical head injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The other occupants of the XUV were also injured: Jegadeep suffered abrasions on his left elbow, Priya sustained a minor shoulder fracture, and Abrarul received injuries as well. All three were promptly admitted to Saidapet GH for treatment.
Investigation and Aftermath
The driver of the other car, identified as S Venkatesan from Cuddalore, also sustained injuries and was hospitalized. The Mylapore Traffic Investigation Wing has registered a case and is conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. Authorities are examining factors such as road conditions, vehicle speeds, and adherence to traffic signals to determine liability and prevent future incidents.
This tragic event highlights ongoing concerns about road safety in urban areas, particularly during late-night hours when visibility and driver alertness may be compromised. It serves as a somber reminder for motorists to exercise caution, use indicators properly, and avoid sudden maneuvers that can lead to catastrophic consequences.
The loss of V Jinu has left her family, friends, and college community in mourning, as they grapple with the sudden and untimely death of a promising young student. The incident underscores the importance of stringent traffic enforcement and public awareness campaigns to reduce such fatalities on Indian roads.
