Chennai Traffic Police Cracks Down on Violations
The Greater Chennai traffic police have intensified their efforts to ensure road safety by conducting a special enforcement drive from June 12 to June 14. During this period, they registered more than 2,900 traffic violation cases across the city. The drive aimed to promote safe and accident-free vehicular movement.
A total of 120 vehicle checkpoints were set up at strategic locations, and intensive surveillance was carried out at major road junctions to detect violations and improve compliance with traffic rules.
Key Offences Targeted
The enforcement drive focused on serious offences such as drunk driving, overspeeding, rash driving, and riding without helmets. The police registered 434 cases of drunk driving, 130 cases of overspeeding and rash driving, and 2,385 cases against riders who were not wearing helmets.
According to officials, the special drive is part of ongoing efforts to reduce road accidents and enhance public safety through preventive measures. The Chennai City Traffic Police have appealed to motorists and other road users to strictly follow traffic rules and cooperate with enforcement agencies to make the city's roads safer for everyone.
Operation Details
The operation was conducted on the directions of city commissioner of police A Amalraj and involved 350 traffic police personnel deployed across Chennai.
