Chikkamagaluru Police Crack Multiple Burglary Cases with Arrest of Bengaluru Man
In a significant breakthrough, the Chikkamagaluru district police have successfully cracked several house burglary cases and recovered substantial valuables with the arrest of a man from Bengaluru. The accused, identified as Mohammad Haneef, 43, a resident of Kempanayakanahalli in Benerughatta, Bengaluru, has been taken into custody on charges of burglary.
Background and Modus Operandi of the Accused
Haneef was born in Kattehaklu in Thirthahalli taluk of the neighboring Shivamogga district. Due to the proximity of Koppa and Hariharapura to Kattehaklu, he possessed an intimate knowledge of the region's topography, which police believe facilitated his criminal activities. According to authorities, he allegedly targeted four houses within the Koppa and Hariharapura police limits.
Police investigations revealed that Haneef operated alone, frequently visiting these areas and specifically choosing houses located close to main roads for his burglaries. This strategic selection allowed for easier access and escape, leveraging his familiarity with the local terrain.
Police Investigation and Recovery of Valuables
Following a series of back-to-back burglaries, Superintendent of Police Jitendra Kumar Dayama formed a dedicated team to investigate the cases. The team included Koppa PSI BE Madhu, NR Pura PSI Nuthan, and Hariharapura PSI Sridhar Naik, who worked collaboratively to track down the perpetrator.
Their efforts led to the arrest of Haneef, who had a prior criminal record; he was previously arrested by Karkala police in Udupi district a few years ago in a related case. Upon his apprehension, police recovered valuables worth Rs 11,45,000 and a car that was used in the commission of the crimes.
Further investigations disclosed that Haneef had sold some of the stolen gold articles to a jewellery shop in Bengaluru. Additionally, police suspect that he may have disposed of other valuables in various states across the country, indicating a broader network or pattern of selling stolen goods.
Crime Prevention Measures Advised by Police
In light of these incidents, the Chikkamagaluru police have issued several recommendations to residents to enhance home security and prevent future thefts:
- Utilize bank lockers for storing valuable items such as gold jewellery and silver articles.
- Inform local police authorities before leaving home for extended periods to ensure increased vigilance.
- Install CCTV cameras around residential properties to provide additional security and aid in crime detection.
These measures are aimed at safeguarding households and deterring potential burglars, especially in areas prone to such crimes. The police emphasize the importance of community awareness and proactive steps to combat theft effectively.
The successful resolution of these cases underscores the diligence of the Chikkamagaluru police force in addressing criminal activities and ensuring public safety. Authorities continue to investigate further details and potential connections to other unsolved burglaries in the region.
