The Chittoor district in Andhra Pradesh has witnessed a substantial improvement in law and order, registering a notable 26% decline in its overall crime rate for the year 2025. Official data reveals that the total number of cases reported dropped to 5,216, a significant fall from the 7,034 cases registered in the preceding year, 2024.
Drastic Reduction Across Major Crime Categories
District Superintendent of Police (SP) Tushar Dudi presented the annual crime statistics, attributing the positive trend to proactive and effective policing strategies. He stated that most major crime categories saw a drastic reduction. Property offences, bodily offences, economic offences, and crimes against women all recorded a downward trend.
However, one area of concern remains. Cases registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act increased by 21%, rising from 46 in 2024 to 56 in 2025. Authorities indicate that this rise may be linked to increased awareness and reporting, but it remains a focused area for intervention.
Enhanced Safety and Recovery Efforts
The district also made strides in road safety. The number of fatal road accidents decreased from 367 in 2024 to 354 in 2025. Consequently, fatalities in these accidents reduced from 402 persons in 2024 to 381 persons in 2025.
In a special drive to address the menace of underage driving, police seized 100 two-wheelers. Another significant achievement was the recovery of 1,021 stolen and lost mobile phones, estimated to be worth approximately Rs 2 crore, and their return to the rightful owners.
Remarkable Recovery Rate in Property Crimes
One of the standout achievements of the Chittoor police in 2025 was their efficiency in recovering stolen property. The force achieved a remarkable 73% recovery rate in property offences. Out of stolen property valued at Rs 11.52 crore, the police successfully recovered property worth Rs 8.39 crore.
To bolster preventive surveillance and deter crime, the district police undertook a massive installation drive. In 2025, a total of 2,406 CCTV surveillance cameras were installed across 755 strategic locations throughout Chittoor district, creating a more secure environment for residents.
The comprehensive data for 2025 paints a picture of a district where concerted police efforts are yielding tangible results in public safety, though challenges in specific areas like crimes against children demand continued attention and resource allocation.
