Rajasthan Police Intelligence Alleges Civilian Employee Received Rs 3.25 Lakh for Espionage Activities
In a significant development, the intelligence wing of the Rajasthan Police has made serious allegations against Sumit Kumar, a civilian employee who was arrested on espionage charges from the Air Force Station in Chabua, Assam, last Sunday. According to police reports, Kumar is accused of receiving approximately Rs 3.25 lakh in exchange for passing on highly sensitive and classified information to handlers based in Pakistan.
Deletion of Evidence and Concealment of Crimes
Investigators have further alleged that Sumit Kumar deliberately deleted crucial chat conversations and other important data from his mobile phone in an attempt to conceal evidence of his espionage activities. This act of data destruction is seen as a calculated move to obstruct the investigation and hide the full extent of his involvement in the espionage network.
Court Proceedings and Custody Remand
A court in Jaipur on Monday remanded Sumit Kumar to police custody until April 2, 2023. During this period, investigators plan to conduct extensive and thorough interrogations to uncover the complete scope of the espionage network he was allegedly part of. The primary focus will be on establishing the nature and sensitivity of the classified information he is accused of leaking to foreign entities.
The investigation aims to determine:
- The exact structure and members of the espionage network
- The specific classified documents and information that were compromised
- The methods used for communication with Pakistan-based handlers
- Potential connections to other espionage activities in the region
This case highlights ongoing concerns about national security breaches and the vulnerability of sensitive military installations to insider threats. The Rajasthan Police intelligence wing continues to work closely with other security agencies to ensure all aspects of this espionage case are thoroughly investigated and appropriate legal actions are taken against all involved parties.
