Chief Justice of India Surya Kant laid the foundation for integrated court complexes in six Uttar Pradesh districts during a ceremony in Varanasi on Saturday. He praised the state government for setting a strong example for the entire country.
UP Leads the Way in Judicial Infrastructure
While addressing the gathering after the Bhoomi-Pujan rituals, CJI Surya Kant congratulated the Uttar Pradesh government and the Allahabad High Court. He highlighted the state's commitment to improving judicial facilities.
"Uttar Pradesh has decided to build integrated court complexes, and this decision sets an example for other states across India," said the Chief Justice. He emphasized the importance of this initiative during his speech.
A Temple of Justice for the Future
The CJI described the new court complexes as temples of justice. He noted that these facilities will meet the judiciary's requirements for the next fifty years.
"This region is famous for its historical religious temples. Today, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh has added a new link to that same history by initiating these court complexes," he stated. The complexes aim to provide better amenities for advocates and common people.
Benchmarks for Other States
Chief Justice Surya Kant announced that he would use Uttar Pradesh's example during his visits to other states. He plans to encourage other state governments and High Courts to develop similar facilities.
"Wherever I go, I will present the Uttar Pradesh government's model and appeal to others to provide such judicial infrastructure in their regions," he affirmed. The state's Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced plans for ten integrated court complexes, with work beginning on six.
Focus on District Judiciary and Inclusivity
The CJI stressed the constitutional importance of district judiciary. He explained that the Constitution envisions accessible court facilities for all citizens in their local areas.
He also made specific recommendations to enhance the new complexes. The Chief Justice asked the High Court to create separate bar rooms for women practicing in district courts. He appreciated the existing arrangements but urged further improvements.
Additionally, CJI Surya Kant requested Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to ensure the inclusion of a primary health centre within the integrated court complexes. This facility would offer relief to elderly individuals, litigants, and others facing health-related issues during court visits.
The integrated court complexes are expected to streamline judicial processes. They will enable judicial officers to deliver justice while upholding human values. Bar members will also play an active role in this enhanced judicial environment.
