A class 10 student was attacked by a pack of stray dogs in Moga on Friday, sustaining severe injuries that required hospitalisation. The attack occurred just three days after the Moga Municipal Corporation and district administration claimed to have initiated measures to address the stray dog menace following a series of similar incidents.
Details of the Attack
According to local sources, the student had gone to drop off a friend when a pack of stray dogs suddenly surrounded and attacked him. Hearing the boy's screams for help, a nearby school van driver acted swiftly. Armed with a stick, the driver rushed to the spot, fought off the pack of dogs, and saved the boy's life. The student was rushed to a local hospital with multiple bite wounds and is currently undergoing treatment.
Previous Incidents and Official Response
The attack comes just three days after the Moga Municipal Corporation and district administration claimed to have swung into active mode to nab stray dogs following a string of similar incidents. Earlier, panic gripped Kapure village in Moga after three consecutive dog bite incidents were reported in quick succession, leading to one death. Following public outcry and fear among the villagers, the district administration was forced to take note. The authorities initiated a drive to catch aggressive stray dogs three days ago and promised a streamlined sterilisation and vaccination campaign to curb the menace.
Deputy Commissioner Sagar Setia ordered field operations. Teams from the Block Development and Panchayat Office (BDPO), the Animal Husbandry Department, and the Chuharchak Animal Welfare Society captured 15-20 dogs in a single day from Kapure village. The animals were shifted to the Chuharchak facility for sterilisation under the animal birth control programme. Dharamkot BDPO Dharamdas said the operations would continue until residents and farm workers could move safely through the fields.
