Haryana BJP chief Dr. Mohan Gupta has hailed India's first hydrogen train as part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's grand vision to protect the environment. The train, which will be a pioneer of its kind, is set to be inaugurated from Jind district and will run up to Sonipat.
Zero Carbon Emissions
“This means there will be zero carbon emissions and no carbon footprint; the only discharge from the train will be water and heat,” Dr Gupta said. He emphasized that the initiative aligns with the government's commitment to sustainable development and reducing pollution.
Launch Details
The hydrogen train is expected to be inaugurated on July 10, 2026, according to reports. The route from Jind to Sonipat covers a significant distance in Haryana, providing an eco-friendly alternative to conventional diesel trains.
Impact on Environment
Hydrogen fuel cells generate electricity through a chemical reaction between hydrogen and oxygen, producing only water vapor and heat as byproducts. This technology eliminates harmful emissions like carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxides, contributing to cleaner air and a healthier environment.
Dr Gupta praised the Modi government for its focus on green technologies, stating that the hydrogen train is a testament to India's leadership in sustainable innovation. The project is expected to serve as a model for future hydrogen-powered transportation across the country.
