Sinner defeats Djokovic in straight sets

Jannik Sinner produced a stunning performance to defeat Novak Djokovic 6-4, 6-3, 7-6 in the Wimbledon 2026 semifinals, booking his place in the final against Alexander Zverev. The Italian, seeded second, dominated the match from start to finish, breaking Djokovic's serve three times and saving all four break points he faced.

Dominant display on Centre Court

Playing on Centre Court, Sinner showcased his powerful groundstrokes and exceptional movement, overwhelming Djokovic with relentless aggression. The first set saw Sinner break early to take a 3-1 lead, and he held serve comfortably to clinch it 6-4. In the second set, he broke Djokovic twice, racing to a 5-1 lead before serving out 6-3.

Djokovic, a seven-time Wimbledon champion, fought back in the third set, pushing Sinner to a tiebreak. However, Sinner held his nerve, winning the tiebreak 7-2 to seal the victory in two hours and 28 minutes.

Historic achievement for Sinner

This marks Sinner's first Wimbledon final appearance and his third Grand Slam final overall. According to tournament statistics, Sinner hit 42 winners to Djokovic's 22 and committed only 18 unforced errors compared to Djokovic's 31. "I played my best tennis today. Novak is a legend, but I believed in my game," Sinner said after the match.

Zverev awaits in final

Alexander Zverev, the third seed, advanced to his first Wimbledon final by defeating Carlos Alcaraz in a five-set thriller earlier in the day. Zverev won 4-6, 7-5, 6-3, 6-7, 7-5 in a match lasting four hours and 11 minutes. The German will face Sinner on Sunday for the title.

Sinner leads their head-to-head 4-2, but Zverev won their last meeting at the French Open earlier this year. "Alex is a great player. It will be a tough match, but I am ready," Sinner added.

Djokovic's quest for 25th Grand Slam halted

Djokovic, seeking a record 25th Grand Slam title, saw his Wimbledon campaign end in the semifinals for the second consecutive year. The 39-year-old Serb struggled with his serve, landing only 55% of first serves and winning 62% of points on his first delivery. "Jannik played incredibly well. He deserved to win," Djokovic acknowledged in his press conference.

The defeat means Djokovic remains tied with Margaret Court on 24 Grand Slam titles. He will next compete at the US Open in August.
