Jannik Sinner crushed Novak Djokovic's dream of a record 25th Grand Slam title with a stunning victory in the Wimbledon semifinals on Friday. The Italian third seed won 7-6 (7-4), 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 to reach his fifth major final, where he will face Germany's Alexander Zverev on Sunday.
Dominant Performance Ends Djokovic's Campaign
Sinner, 24, dictated play from the baseline, breaking Djokovic's serve three times. Djokovic, 39, fought back in the third set but could not sustain the level. The match lasted three hours and 14 minutes on Centre Court.
"I played some of my best tennis today," Sinner said. "Novak is a champion, but I stayed focused and believed in my game."
Zverev Ends British Wildcard's Dream Run
Earlier, Alexander Zverev ended the dream run of British wildcard Arthur Fery, winning 6-4, 7-5, 6-3. Fery, ranked 115th, had stunned several seeded players en route to his first major semifinal. Zverev praised his opponent: "Arthur played incredible tennis this week. I had to be at my best to win."
Zverev, 29, is seeking his second Grand Slam title after winning the 2020 US Open. He has a 2-3 record against Sinner in tour meetings.
Djokovic's Grand Slam Quest Halted
Djokovic, chasing a 25th major title to surpass Margaret Court's all-time record, had won Wimbledon four times previously. His defeat leaves the record tied at 24 with Court. "It's disappointing, but Jannik was better today," Djokovic said. "I'll keep working and come back stronger."
Sinner's victory marks a generational shift in men's tennis, with the Italian now ranked No. 2 in the world. Sunday's final promises a clash of power and precision as Sinner aims for his fifth Grand Slam title.
