A 49-year-old government clerk lost his life in a tragic accident at the Koderma railway station on Monday evening. The victim, a staff member of the Markachho block office, fell while attempting to board a moving train in a desperate bid to visit his wife.
A Fatal Rush to Board
The incident occurred as the 13151 Kolkata-Jammu Tawi Express had begun to depart from the platform. Eyewitnesses reported that the clerk, identified as Kumar, arrived at the station just as the train was pulling out. In a hurried attempt to catch it, he lost his footing and fell onto the platform, suffering severe injuries that rendered him unconscious immediately.
Immediate Response and Hospitalization
Personnel from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and bystanders swiftly rushed to his aid. Demonstrating urgency, RPF officials arranged for his transport to a nearby private clinic using a private vehicle. As his condition showed no signs of improvement and remained critical, he was quickly referred to the Koderma Sadar Hospital for advanced medical care.
Dr. Ranjit Kumar, the Deputy Superintendent of Sadar Hospital, confirmed the grim outcome. "The patient was brought dead," he stated. A postmortem examination was conducted on Tuesday, following which the body was handed over to his grieving family.
Shock and Mourning in the Administration
The news sent shockwaves through the local administrative circles where the clerk was a well-regarded figure. The Block Development Officer of Markachho, along with several district officials and staff members, visited the hospital upon learning of the incident. The Markachho block office has been enveloped in a pall of gloom following the untimely demise of their colleague.
Reports indicate that the clerk was attempting to travel to the Gaya district of Bihar, where his wife is employed as a government school teacher. This tragic accident underscores the severe dangers associated with attempting to board moving trains, a recurring cause of fatalities at Indian railway stations.
