Codeine Syrup Seized in UP, 6 Arrested in Etah & Mirzapur

In a significant crackdown on the illicit drug trade, Uttar Pradesh police have seized a substantial quantity of codeine-based cough syrup and arrested six individuals in two separate operations conducted in Etah and Mirzapur districts.

Major Haul in Etah District

The first operation unfolded in the Etah district, where a police team acted on a specific tip-off. The authorities intercepted a vehicle and conducted a thorough search. During this inspection, they discovered and confiscated 2,100 bottles of codeine phosphate cough syrup. The estimated black market value of this seizure is a staggering Rs 21 lakh.

Following the seizure, the police took five individuals into custody in connection with the case. The arrested persons were identified as Shivam, Satyendra, Rahul, Virendra, and Kallu. A case has been registered against them under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, marking a serious legal proceeding against the alleged traffickers.

Second Bust in Mirzapur

In a parallel action on the same day, law enforcement agencies in Mirzapur district carried out another successful raid. This operation led to the seizure of 48 bottles of the same codeine-based cough syrup. One suspect was apprehended at the scene in connection with this illicit consignment.

The police have launched a comprehensive investigation to uncover the supply chain and distribution network behind these operations. The focus is on tracing the source of the narcotic syrup and identifying other individuals involved in the smuggling racket that spans these districts.

Ongoing War Against Drug Trafficking

These coordinated raids underscore the continued and intensified efforts by the Uttar Pradesh Police to combat the smuggling and abuse of prescription drugs, particularly codeine-based syrups. Such substances are often misused as intoxicants and are a growing concern for law enforcement across several states.

The seizures in Etah and Mirzapur represent a tangible blow to local drug networks. The police have emphasized that the crackdown will persist, with heightened vigilance on highways and transit routes commonly used by smugglers to transport contraband. The public has also been urged to report any suspicious activities related to drug peddling to help authorities in this ongoing battle.
