The victim has been identified as A Ramachandran, a 39-year-old man originally from Palakkad in Kerala. He has been residing in Shukrawarpet near R S Puram and working at a local jewellery workshop as a goldsmith. The accused, Biju, also hails from Kerala and worked alongside Ramachandran at the same workshop, sharing living quarters with him.

Sequence of Events Leading to the Attack

According to police reports, the two men consumed alcohol together in their room on Thursday night. Later, they visited a nearby eatery for dinner. After finishing their meal, Biju allegedly left the establishment without settling the bill, forcing Ramachandran to cover the entire cost.

Upon returning to their accommodation, a heated argument erupted between them over the unpaid bill. Biju temporarily left the room but returned around 12:30 AM on Friday. He is accused of bringing sulfuric acid, a chemical commonly used in jewellery making processes, and pouring it on Ramachandran while he was asleep.

Aftermath and Police Response

Following the acid attack, Biju fled the scene immediately. Ramachandran's screams alerted neighbours, who rushed to the room and promptly transported him to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for urgent medical treatment. The R S Puram police have registered a formal case and initiated a comprehensive manhunt to locate and arrest Biju, who remains absconding.
