Coimbatore Man Arrested for Murder and Attempted Murder in Love Triangle Dispute
A 54-year-old man has been arrested in Coimbatore for the brutal murder of a hotel owner and the attempted murder of his paramour, following a violent incident at Nagamanaickenpalayam on Tuesday. The arrested individual, identified as P Premanand, a passenger auto rickshaw driver from Venkateswara Nagar in Nagamanaickenpalayam near Sulur, is accused of carrying out the attack in a fit of rage after his marriage proposal was rejected.
Details of the Deceased and the Victim
The deceased has been named as S Dhilipan, a 37-year-old from Vaniyampadi taluk in Tirupathur district, who was operating Uzhavan Hotel at Nagamanaickenpalayam. The woman involved, Anbu Esther alias Kalamani, aged 37 and from Tirunelveli district, is a divorcee residing at Sri Chinnaiyan Nagar in the same village. She sustained injuries during the attack and is currently hospitalized.
Background of the Incident
Police reports indicate that Premanand, a widower, had expressed his desire to marry Anbu Esther. However, she declined his proposal as she was in a relationship with Dhilipan. This rejection allegedly fueled Premanand's anger, leading to the violent confrontation.
Violent Attack and Arson
Around 5:30 AM on Tuesday, Premanand forcibly entered the woman's house at Sri Chinnaiyan Nagar. He attacked Dhilipan with a knife, inflicting multiple stab wounds. When Anbu intervened to stop the assault, Premanand stabbed her on the hip. In a further escalation, he cut the LPG tube connecting the cylinder regulator and stove in the kitchen and set it on fire, causing a major blaze.
Response and Aftermath
Neighbors alerted the police upon hearing the commotion and seeing the fire. By the time police and fire personnel arrived, Dhilipan had succumbed to his injuries. Anbu and Premanand were rescued with burn injuries and have been admitted as in-patients at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH).
Previous Criminal History
Investigations revealed that Premanand had previously attacked the couple and attempted to murder them on January 4. He was arrested at that time and lodged in the Coimbatore Central Prison, but was released on conditional bail last month. The Sulur police have registered a case and are conducting a thorough investigation into the latest incident.
