Coimbatore Man Held for Killing Moneylender

A 30-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday in connection with the murder of a moneylender, whose body was discovered in Coimbatore on May 29. The RS Puram police identified the suspect as Narpat Singh, a native of Rajasthan who runs a mobile phone shop in the RS Puram area.

Details of the Crime

According to police investigations, Narpat had borrowed Rs 30,000 from B Abuthahir, 27, and failed to repay the amount. Abuthahir allegedly harassed Narpat in front of his wife and daughter over the unpaid debt. The accused also claimed that Abuthahir harassed his daughter, which enraged him and led to the murder plot.

Sequence of Events

Narpat planned to kill Abuthahir and asked him to meet on May 29. The two met and consumed alcohol together. After Abuthahir became intoxicated, Narpat strangled him with a rope and dumped the body in an empty drainage canal near Syrian Church on Brooke Bond Road. He then set the body on fire before fleeing the scene.

Arrest and Confession

Police identified the accused by analyzing CCTV camera footage and tracked him down on Wednesday. During interrogation, Narpat confessed to the crime. He was produced before a court and remanded in judicial custody.
