Fake Rs 2.5 Crore Currency Seized in Kerala

In a major operation, the Parassala police along with the district anti-narcotic special action force (Dansaf) arrested three individuals and seized counterfeit currency with a face value of Rs 2.5 crore during a routine vehicle inspection at Pavathiyanvila near Parassala.

Arrested Individuals Identified

The accused have been identified as Saji (31) and Achu alias Abi (34), both residents of Bhagavathinada in Balaramapuram, and Ashtaman Potty (40), a native of Poonthura. According to police reports, Saji and Achu allegedly convinced Potty that he could acquire fake currency worth Rs 10 lakh by paying Rs 1 lakh. The trio subsequently travelled to Bengaluru, where they procured the counterfeit notes and were returning to Thiruvananthapuram when they were intercepted during a routine police check.

Details of the Seizure

During the inspection, law enforcement officers recovered bundles of fake Rs 500 notes from the vehicle. Upon closer examination, it was discovered that the notes bore the inscriptions 'Children's Bank of India' and 'For Projection Purpose Only' instead of the legitimate 'Reserve Bank of India' marking. These imitation notes are typically used for film shooting and projection purposes.

Police suspect that the accused intended to use these counterfeit notes to defraud unsuspecting individuals by passing them off as genuine currency. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway to trace the source of the fake notes and identify any other individuals involved in the operation.
