Nyck de Vries on Monaco Win, Pressure, and Team Goals
Nyck de Vries Reflects on Monaco Victory and Season Challenges

Mahindra Racing driver Nyck de Vries endured a challenging start to the season before silencing his critics with a stunning victory at the Monaco E-Prix. Reflecting on his journey, the Dutch driver emphasized that success in motorsport is rarely as simple as it appears from the outside.

Nyck de Vries Does Not Feel Pressure to Be on Top

De Vries’ long-awaited return to the top step of the podium came in spectacular fashion at the Circuit de Monaco, motorsport’s most iconic venue. Speaking to Jodie Writes Racing, he said, “There is always pressure to perform, but I don’t necessarily feel the pressure to be on top or winning. Our primary objective should be to improve on last year and see what is possible from there. You don’t go from last to fourth to winning a championship—it is not as straightforward as it could look.”

The 31-year-old also spoke candidly about coming to terms with mistakes made earlier in the season. “Everything that has happened is in the past. The mistakes we were in control of—or I was in control of—hopefully we’ve learned from them. There’s no point being frustrated because it doesn’t help us move forward. Looking ahead is key, but it’s easier said than done,” he admitted.

Nyck de Vries Pleased for Teammate Edoardo Mortara

Mahindra Racing has enjoyed a strong campaign, with Edoardo Mortara securing two podium finishes and de Vries winning in Monaco. De Vries remains realistic about the team’s targets. “You’ve got to be realistic with expectations. The team has done a great job. Edo has had a very strong run, which is great to see. I’m happy for him because it’s important for us as a team,” he said.

Mortara currently sits third in the Drivers’ Championship with 103 points, while de Vries is tenth with 43 points. With seven races remaining on the calendar, there is plenty of opportunity for de Vries to finish the season strongly. The next Formula E round is the Sanya E-Prix in China on June 20.
